Church Fasting and Prayer

Welcome to 10 Days of Fasting & Prayer!

We are so thankful you’ve chosen to join us on this sacred journey. These next 10 days will set the tone for a powerful spiritual experience that will impact not only this time of fasting and prayer but also prepare us for a full year of ministry, fellowship, and outreach to follow. As a guide we will be using the book 10 Days: Prayer and Devotions to Experience the Baptism of the Holy Spirit by Dennis Smith. We will have a limited amount of copies at the church, so secure yours while we have supplies.

To receive the greatest blessing, here are some important guidelines:

1️⃣ Daily Gatherings: Join us each weekday evening virtually from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM via Zoom and in person on Sabbath at 12 PM. These times of fellowship will encourage and unify us as we seek God’s presence together. You are encouraged to spend time with God studying the necessary readings for that day before our gatherings. Please be intentional in making room for personal time with God.

2️⃣ Limit Secular Activities: To deepen your spiritual experience, we encourage you to minimize secular activities during these 10 days. Avoid secular television, music, games, internet browsing, or discussions. Instead, focus on spiritual music, Bible study, uplifting content, and prayer. This “Prayer Fast” will clear your mind and allow God to communicate with you more clearly, enhancing your connection with Him.

3️⃣ Consider a Physical Fast: Some participants choose to fast from physical food during this time. You might omit one meal, avoid sweets, or eat smaller portions. You may choose to limit or restrict certain items that you crave from your diet. This practice helps redirect our focus to spiritual nourishment and deepens our sensitivity to God’s leading. The physical fast is your choice, what you sow into this time is what you will reap. Trust God through the process.

4️⃣ Prayer Partners: Partnering with another believer is key to this journey. With your prayer partner, you will pray daily for the five people on your prayer list. Jesus promised us in Matthew 18:19, “...if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.” There is great power in united prayer! In addition, Christian fellowship brings encouragement and spiritual strength as we lift each other up in faith and love.

5️⃣ Pray for Five: Create a list of five people—friends, family, or co-workers—that you want to pray for. Inform them that you and your church will be lifting them up in prayer. At the end of the 10 weeks, invite them to join your small group for Bible study and fellowship.

As we embark on this journey, let us claim the beautiful promise from Ellen White:
"The Lord will hear our prayers for the conversion of souls." (Messages to Young People, p. 315)

Let’s fully commit ourselves to this sacred time of prayer, fasting, and study. Together, we will open our hearts to God’s leading and experience the transforming power of the Holy Spirit in our lives, our church, and the lives of those we are lifting in prayer.

Thank you for joining us. May this journey be life-changing for us all!
